Character strong is the Princeton ISD character education program. Character education involves developing thoughtful, healthy, and kind human beings. Our character is informed by our personal values and choices. Character education lessons focus on self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. For more information, check out characterstrong.com.

Each month will focus on a specific character trait:

Executive functions help children develop skills of teamwork, leadership, decision-making, working toward goals, critical thinking, adaptability, and being aware of our own emotions as well as those of others. We focus on an executive function skill each month throughout the school year.

Attention - This looks like staying on task, following a conversation, answering questions about something you observed or read about.

Perseverance - This looks like setting goals and reaching them, finishing you start, and sticking with something, even when it's hard.

Metacognition - This looks like being aware of your own thoughts, planning how to perform a task, and recognizing your mistakes and figuring out how to fix them.

Organization - This looks like keeping your space clean, arriving at school with everything you need, telling a story with a beginning, middle, and end.

Planning - This looks like figuring out how to complete a task, knowing what you need to finish a task and following steps.

Flexibility - This looks like switching from one task to another, understanding someone else's perspective, and trying new things.

Self-Control - This looks like taking turns in a conversation, setting limits even on things you like, and resisting peer pressure.

Task Initiation - This looks like following a timeline, completing routines without being reminded, and understanding when to ask for help.

Time Management - This looks like following a timeline, finishing tasks on time, and knowing how much time you need for a task.

Working Memory - This looks like remember details of a story, remember the steps in a process, and keeping track of what someone else is saying during a conversation.
